National Electrical Code (NEC) Article 690 Practice Test

The recommended installation guideline for circuit conductors within accessible locations for photovoltaic (PV) systems is that they should be guarded or installed in specific cable types. This approach is critical to ensure electrical safety and system integrity, particularly in circumstances where the conductors may be approached by personnel or equipment.

Using proper cable types or guards helps to mitigate risks such as physical damage, which could lead to hazardous conditions, like short circuits or even electrocution. Specifically, the National Electrical Code (NEC) outlines that conductors located in areas accessible to the public or personnel need to be protected against accidental contact or damage. This can be accomplished through the use of conduit systems, armored cables, or other means of protection, greatly enhancing safety for both individuals and the electrical system.

Installation practices that are compliant with the NEC not only safeguard the electrical components but also ensure that the system operates optimally without unnecessary interruptions or hazards. This standpoint aligns with the overarching safety principles of the NEC that aim to protect both the installation and its users.
